Most Fridays starting in April at 4:00 p.m. shotgun shooters gather at the 5-Stand (beside the Skeet Field). Cost is $5 per round. When weather is good is 5-Stand time!
There is one scheduled Skeet shoot in 2019 as part of the Joe Young Memorial Tourney on Saturday, Oct. 12 starting at 9:00 a.m.
Besides the four National Sporting Clays Assn. shoots, the club has Club sporting clays shoots on Aug. 24, Sept. 14 and Oct. 19.
e FITASC shooting is a specialty sporting clays shooting introducted at ACWLC in 2018. We have two FITASC shoots in 2019, June 29 and July 27. There are flights at 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
The Pyramid Trap is an integral part of the shotgun sports facilities. It can be used by any members once they undergo training on operating the electrical machines.
Manual throwers are mostly stationed at the Skeet Field and are ideal for novice shooters with helpers to practice. You may pick up unbroken clays and use them in the manual throwers, but NOT IN THE ELECTRICAL THROWERS.
3-Gun Shoots include rifle, pistol and shotguns. Rifles are shot at paper targets, Shoguns at stationary clay targets set on the hillside, and Pistols are shot at steel knockdown targets. This shoot will be St. Sept. 21st at 2:00 p.m.
Ladies Day & Sadie Hawkins Day will be a combined event. Ladies will get individual instruction in the basics of shooting. This will be followed by a two-person, man-woman competitive shoot. This will be Sat. Sept. 21st at 2:00 p.m. Ladies do not have to have a man with them. They can be paired that day.
hisFor the first time, ACWLC will stage a Rifle Shoot just for owners of AR and AK platform rifles. Targets will be paper targets at 100, 200 & 300 yards. This shoot will be on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the rifle range.
2-Gun Pistol Shoots will feature shooting .22 target or personal defense pistols followed by shooting center fire pistols (revolvers or semi-automatics). Scores will be combined to determine a champion. This will be Sat. July 20th at 10:30 a.m.
Groundhog rifle shoots will be shot at groundhog-shaped paper targets at 100, 200 & 300 yards. Shoots will be Sat. April 13 at Noon and Sun. Sept. 29 at 2:00 p.m. at rifle range.
Personal defense shoot will involve drawing and firing from a holster in simulation of the need to fire during a defensive shooting situation. This shoot will be Sat. June 22 at 2:00 p.m.
NOBODY cooks as good of prime rib as the ACWLC cooks! Tickets are $100 for two people. Each ticket sold goes into a drawing for a grand prize of $3,000 (which is generally split among the last three ticket holders). There are also door prizes. This is ACWLC's main, non-shooting fund raiser of the year. The public is invited. Sponsors are welcome. Raffled that night for $5 a ticket will be a Sig Sauer compact 1911 in 9 mm. This is a $950-list pistol.
For the second year in a row, ACWLC will host the OSP Shooting School. This is an intense school designed for novice to experienced shotgun shooters who want to improve their skills. The cost to OSP is $525 per day with a $200 per day deposit at least 30 days in advance. There will be an additional charge of $ per box of clays used and $ for lunch that will be payable to the Ashe County Wildlife Club. This will be a day for the general public to come out to the Ashe County Wildlife Club to see what we and the NRA are all about. There will be an air rifle range set up inside the Club House; shotgun clays instruction by Club shooters; and pistol instruction by Club shooters. There is no charge to the public. Guns and ammo will be available for those inexperience with firearms.
Saturday, Oct. 12 will be the Club’s annual Joe Young Memorial Shotgun Shoot starting at 9:00 a.m. The tourney, one of the Club’s shooting fund raisers, is named after one of the early founders of the Club. The shoot will feature 25 shots of skeet, 25 shots of 5-Stand, and 50 shots of sporting clays.
The entrance fee is $50 per shooter, which includes a prepared lunch. Sponsorships for individuals or corporations without a shooter are also available for $100. These sponsorships often go to teenagers who are members of the Ashe County 4-H Club Shooting Sports Club. A sponsorship also includes lunch for two people, counting the shooter. Sponsorships are tax deductible. Shooters do not have to be members of the Club to compete. Winners in each category will receive a plaque.
