The Pyramid Trap is an integral part of the shotgun sports facilities. It can be used by any members once they undergo training on operating the electrical machines. It is open during the times the Club is open. Invite your friends to meet you at the Pyramid. Bring your own NEW BOXED CLAYS! DO NOT PICK UP BROKEN CLAYS FROM THE FIELDS. (Clays from the field often have sand in them, or can break inside the machine)
Manual throwers are mostly stationed at the Skeet Field and are ideal for novice shooters with helpers to practice. You may pick up unbroken clays and use them in the manual throwers, but NOT IN THE ELECTRICAL THROWERS scattered around the property and in the Pyramid Trap Stand.
3-Gun Shoots include rifle, pistol and shotguns. Rifles are shot at paper targets, Shoguns at stationary clay targets set on the hillside, and Pistols are shot at steel knockdown targets. None have been scheduled for 2022.
Ladies Day & Sadie Hawkins Day will be a combined event. Ladies will get individual instruction in the basics of shooting. This will be followed by a two-person, man-woman competitive shoot. 2022 date is not yet set.
ACWLC has staged Rifle Shoots just for owners of AR and AK platform rifles. Targets are paper targets at 100, 200 & 300 yards. 2022 dates for these shoots are not yet set.
2-Gun Pistol Shoots will feature shooting .22 target or personal defense pistols followed by shooting center fire pistols (revolvers or semi-automatics). Scores will be combined to determine a champion. 2022 Dates are not yet set.
Groundhog rifle shoots will be shot at groundhog-shaped paper targets at 100, 200 & 300 yards. 2022 dates are not yet set.
Personal defense shoot will involve drawing and firing from a holster in simulation of the need to fire during a defensive shooting situation. 2022 dates are not yet set.
The tourney, one of the Club’s shooting fund raisers, is named after one of the early founders of the Club. The shoot will feature 25 shots of Skeet, 25 shots of 5-Stand, and 25 shots of Sporting Clays, and 25 shots at the Pyramid Trap.
The entrance fee is $50 per shooter, which includes a prepared lunch. Sponsorships for individuals or corporations without a shooter are also available for $100. These sponsorships often go to teenagers who are members of the Ashe County 4-H Club Shooting Sports Club. A sponsorship also includes lunch for two people, counting the shooter. Sponsorships are tax deductible. Shooters do not have to be members of the Club to compete. Winners in each category will receive a plaque.
